Career details
I commenced providing mobile surgical care in April 2014 after spending several years with a large mixed practice in East Cheshire, latterly as a partner.
I never anticipated quite how popular this service would be and I have been far busier than I could possibly have imagined.
In March 2015 I was added to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons list of Advanced Practitioners.
I qualified from Glasgow Veterinary School in 1995 with commendation and merits in Medicine & Surgery.
I then returned home to mixed practice which was enjoyable but wasn't for me ! I then took a job with the PDSA. This 'temporary' job provided me some great experience and I moved to Newcastle PDSA, one of the busiest in the country. There is no option to refer the jobs you can't do so you you learn lots, and you learn quickly !
When we moved to the South East in 1998 I returned to private practice at a hospital based practice in Essex. When the commuting became a headache, I took a job slightly closer to home in Hertfordshire, and back at the PDSA, this time, in North London. I always thought I would be orientated towards medicine, but here I found that I was the only vet who really enjoyed surgery. I enrolled for the Royal College Certificate in Surgery and immersed myself in everything surgical.
I had always thought I might study ophthalmology, but fate led me down a different path.
The PDSA decided to re-organise its services and that led to my move to Goddard's Veterinary Group, at the time the largest Veterinary group in the UK. After a year and a half at their Wanstead Hospital, we decided to return north.
I sat my Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons examinations in 2005, never expecting to get through such a tough examination process but was thrilled to receive my certi!cate in September that year.
Shortly afterwards I became a salaried partner at Wright and Morten, a large mixed practice in Cheshire where I have developed my skills, the skills of those around me and helped a great team achieve great things.
A new journey then began ...
My current companions include Tetley a 15 year old terrier, Sansa , and recent addition Evie, both Hungarian Vizslas along with 2 cats.
